RHS Names Robert Lee as New Athletic Director

 

Mr. Lee brings 34 years of experience in athletic administration and coaching to Richmond High School.  He most recently served as Athletic Director for Gary Community Schools in Gary, Indiana for the last four years.  His athletic and coaching experiences also include Butler University, Eastern Michigan University, Valparaiso University, Miami University, Earlham College and the NFL’s Chicago Bears.  

“We are thrilled to welcome Robert Lee to the Richmond High School family,” said Rae Woolpy, Principal of Richmond High School.  “His passion for student-athletes’ success, both on and off the field, aligns perfectly with our school’s mission.  We’re confident that our athletic programs will continue to thrive under his leadership.”

As Athletic Director, Mr. Lee will oversee all aspects of Richmond Community Schools’ athletic programs, including budget management, scheduling, coach development, and ensuring compliance with state and national athletic association regulations.

Mr. Lee holds a master’s degree in management from National University and a bachelor’s degree in supervision from Purdue University.  

In other news, Richmond High School is excited to announce the hiring of several new varsity head coaches for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

Marcus Calvert will take over as head coach of the varsity football program.  Calvert was previously the offensive coordinator for the Red Devils.  He brings over a decade of coaching experience at the high school level.  Calvert is a chemistry teacher at Richmond High School.

Michael Medley takes the help as head baseball coach.  Medley continues his leadership at Richmond High School after a successful stint as the Red Devils assistant coach, where he helped lead the team to several wins. 

Kyle Ingram has been named the new head coach for varsity boys and varsity girls golf teams.  Ingram is no stranger to Red Devil Athletics.  He has previously served as the head coach of Richmond’s varsity softball team.

Hunter Lambright has been named the head combined cross country coach.  Lambright, the former assistant combined cross-country coach, brings a wealth of experience in distance running and a passion for developing young athletes.  Lambright is a math and an AP psychology teacher at Richmond High School.  

Richmond High has hired Santiago Velandia as the new head coach for the boys’ varsity soccer team.  He is a US Marine veteran with over five years of experience in fitness training.  He will soon graduate from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.  

Neal VanMiddlesworth joins the athletic staff as the head coach of the girls’ varsity soccer team.  The 1986 RHS alum is no stranger to RHS girls’ soccer.  In 2018, he was their head coach.  VanMiddlesworth is a detective of the Richmond Police Department. 

Richmond High School looks forward to the new and returning coaches continuing the proud athletic tradition and elevating the school district’s teams to new heights of success.
