Richmond Area Career Center Welcomes New Director Josh Amyx

 Richmond Community Schools has approved Josh Amyx as the new director of the Richmond Area Career Center (RACC) at Richmond High School.  Amyx, a distinguished educator and Richmond High School alumnus, will succeed retiring director Rusty Hensley at the end of January.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis L. Wright states, “As a resident administrator of Richmond High School, Mr. Amyx has exhibited a brand of leadership that our Board of Trustees, myself, our central office team, and so many others find to be a brand of professionalism that we can trust. I am confident that Mr. Amyx will expand upon our CTE offerings for years to come.”  

Amyx brings strong leadership experience to the role, having served as assistant principal at Richmond High School since 2016.  His career in education spans nearly two decades, beginning as a teacher at Richmond High School in 2005. His excellence in education has been recognized multiple times, receiving the RCS Teacher of the Year award in 2015 and the RCS Administrator of the Year in 2022.  A 1999 graduate of Richmond High School, Amyx holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters of Arts in Teaching  from Earlham College.  

"Throughout my professional career at Richmond High School, I have been immensely grateful for the incredible experiences I've had, from teaching to serving as an assistant principal," says Amyx. "These experiences have paved the way for this new opportunity, and I am excited for the opportunity to grow and network within our community. Combining my skills and passion in this role will support the students and faculty of Richmond Community Schools, propelling us toward a bright future where students graduate with a diploma and a plan."

These programs offer students hands-on work experience while still in high school, preparing them for future careers in high-demand fields.

Amyx resides in Richmond with his wife Tracy.  They have four children, and one grandson.
